This Operate Safe - Bronze Card approved course covers all compulsory plus selected elective unit standard requirements. Successful course completions show that a company is committed to training staff to meet industry expected "good practice" in health, safety and environmental awareness. The course also meets NZTA’s health and safety requirements for companies tendering for Transit contracts. It can be used to develop staff under other programmes containing safety related modules e.g. QEST. Health and Safety - Part A course units can be used to contribute towards the National Certificate in Civil Infrastructure Health, Safety, and Environment (Operations) (Level 3) and Operate Safe Silver card requirements.

On completion of this course participants will have the knowledge to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of safe practice for civil worksites and best practice procedures in the event of unsafe work conditions
- Demonstrate knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation relevant to civil infrastructure worksites
- Describe in simple terms how health, safety, and environmental legislative requirements are met at civil infrastructure worksites
- Demonstrate knowledge of civil infrastructure emergency situations, site emergency plans and worksite response
National Qualification information:
This one day course will cover the theoretical knowledge of the following unit standards. Full assessment of these unit standards is available to those who complete the theory question and workplace activity workbook. These assessment workbooks are handed out on the training day and must be completed and returned to NZIHT within six weeks of the course date. People who want credit given for prior learning or related industry certification must provide full and valid evidence of such when handing in their completed workbook. 497 - Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements 6475 - Maintain records for civil construction work 17327 - Communicate on civil construction sites 20868 - Demonstrate knowledge of emergency response in the civil infrastructure industry 20870 - Describe protection of health, safety and environment in the civil infrastructure industry. 20873 - Demonstrate knowledge of health & safety and environmental legislation at civil infrastructure sites. 20877 - Demonstrate knowledge of working safely at sites under temporary traffic management

The following course tuition fee options are available. All prices are given per person and exclude GST. WITT SUBSIDISED OPTION $92.50 +GST *Conditions apply and subject to available funding. This subsidised option is only available to NZ Citizens or Permanent Residents of NZ who supply the necessary enrolment information. It includes the full assessment of the listed unit standards. * In order to receive the WITT subsidised fee, each person must: - Complete a WITT enrolment form and provide a copy of their NZ birth certificate or NZ passport prior to, or on, the training date. - Complete an assessment workbook with theory and practical components. This workbook will be given out at the course and must be returned to NZIHT within six weeks from the course date. If the above conditions are not met, the full course fee will be charged. INFRATRAIN SUBSIDISED TRAINIEE OPTION - $300 +GST This fee includes full assessment of unit standards.
To be eligible for this subsidy, the individual participant MUST BE signed into a relevant InfraTrain qualification. Note: InfraTrain reserves the right to review the subsidy rate at any time. To be accepted under this option a participant must supply their InfraTrain ID No plus complete a WITT enrolment form and provide a copy of their birth certificate or passport in order to have the unit standards assessed.Participants must fully complete a workbook with theory and practical components. This workbook will be given out at the course and must be returned to NZIHT within six (6) weeks from the course start date. FULL COURSE FEE $750+GST may include assessment of listed unit standards. *To be eligible for a fee subsidy a course participant must provide evidence of NZ Citizenship or Permanent Residence or being signed into a relevant InfraTrain qualification. This full fee option will apply to all participants who may not (e.g. non NZ resident) or do not meet the above requirements. To enable assessment of unit standards a candidate must complete a WITT enrolment form plus provide a copy of their birth certificate or passport. Candidates for assessment must also fully complete an assessment workbook with theory and practical components. This workbook will be given out at the course and must be returned to NZIHT within six (6) weeks from the course start date.
