Refresher - Level 1 Basic TC

Presenter: NZTA approved trainer

Registration for Level 1 Basic - Traffic Controller (TC) expires at the end of three years, at which time you will need to attend a one-day refresher course to regain this qualification.

This course provides training of the major changes to the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (COP/TTM). Including, low volume roads, change in responsibilities, training, static/mobile operations, generic plans and the Health and Safety in Employment Act.




Topics include:

  • Changes to the NZTA COP/TTM
  • Low Volume roads
  • Mobile Operations
  • Signage
  • Change in responsibilities
  • How to use generic plans
  • Safety Audit Procedures
  • Changes to HASIE Act and how you are affected as a road worker
  • Local Roads supplement



On completion of this course participants will have the knowledge to:

  • recognise and understand the changes to the Code of Practice
  • apply the criteria for low volume roads
  • relate to Code of Practice standards on the work site
  • apply generic plans
  • apply the changes for mobile operations
  • identify and control traffic and other hazards
  • understand the responsibilities following the amendment to the HASIE Act
  • set up, check and maintain work site protection measures
  • understand the format of the local roads supplement to COPTTM



National Qualification information:

Attendance at this one day course will deliver the theoretical knowledge of the following unit standards. Assessment of these unit standards is available - refer to cost schedule for details. Note that full completion of assessment documents will be required within 8 weeks after the training.
5627 - Operate as a Traffic Controller (TC) for low volume and Level 1 roads
20877 - Demonstrate knowledge of working safely at sites under temporary traffic management
20878 - Assist with temporary traffic management for low volume and Level 1 roads




Who Should Attend:

Any person who is registered on the NZTA database as a Level 1 Basic Traffic Controller (TC) with their qualification about to expire.


Cost:

FULL COURSE FEE

• $300 +GST course attendance fee only 

Note: NZTA Registration is an additional $40 +GST (refer below)

This fee applies to people who attend a course for knowledge only purposes with no intention of gaining unit standard credits.

 

 

WITT SUBSIDISED OPTION

• $180 +GST course attendance fee *conditons apply 

Note: NZTA Registration is an additional $40 +GST (refer below)

This subsidised option is only available to NZ Citizens or Permanent Residents of NZ who supply the necessary enrolment information. It includes assessment of unit standard 20877 reported to NZQA. Students must complete and pass a theory test on the day of training.
Full assessment of the remainder of unit standards is available on request.

*To be eligible for a fee subsidy a course participant must provide evidence of NZ Citizenship or Permanent Residence.
Each person must:
- Complete a WITT enrolment form and provide a copy of their NZ Birth Certificate or passport prior to the course date.
- Complete and pass theory test/s on the day of training.
If the above conditions are not met, the full course fee will be charged.

NZTA REGISTRATION FEE

• $40 +GST 

NZTA registration (photo ID card) is additional to course cost (this cost is not subsidised by InfraTrain) 




Pre-requisite for entry:

NZTA requires that you must be registered on the NZTA database as a TC. Please provide evidence that you have attended the Level 1 Basic   Traffic Controller course - by providing a copy of your Transit NZ Photo ID registration card.  




Participants to bring:

Please bring a copy of the NZTA Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management. It is also advisable that participants are familiar with the Code.
