Supervision of Road Construction requires not only general management skills but also needs an understanding of the role of the various components of a road.

This understanding must cover: the effect of water, the identification of quality soils and aggregates, methods of improving material quality, together with the construction techniques that must be employed.
This course is aligned to cover a portion of the core elective units of the National Certificate in Civil Construction Supervision Level 4.

• Earthworks
• Pavement construction
• Culvert and subsoil drainage
• Stabilisation
• Sampling and testing

• Analyse and assess on job requirements
• Maintain appropriate on site records (including time sheets, work records, plant and test records
• Document site activities where required
• Comply with legal and statutory requirements
• Select and co-ordinate sub-contractors on a civil construction site
• Supervise construction activities
• Manage civil plant and equipment, materials and personnel
• Liaise with client and consultant and maintain public relations

This course will address theoretical and knowledge requirements related to the below unit standards. It will not cover assessment and practical requirements unless specifically stated under course costs.

12564 - Supervise earthworks preparation for civil construction
12572 - Supervise the construction of road pavement layers
17320 - Supervise civil construction earthworks
17321 - Supervise subsoil and culvert drainage on civil construction works
22292 - Demonstrate knowledge of field sampling for testing of civil construction materials
22293 - Demonstrate knowledge of pavement stabilisation on civil construction sites
