GradDip(Highways) pre-requisite: This course is designed to give prospective students an adequate level and breadth of knowledge in Geomechanics sufficient to meet the entry requirements for the NZIHT Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Highways). Other technical people working in areas related to earthworks and civil engineering may find this course useful to broaden their knowledge at an undergraduate level (i.e. NZQA Level 6 equivalent).

- Soil Grading (particle size distribution)

- Shear Strength
- In-situ testing
On completion of this course participants will have the knowledge to:
- Identify Engineering Properties of Soils
- Interpret Soil Test results
- Interpret the Unified Classification System
- Evaluate a range of in-situ test procedures
