GradDip(Highways) pre-requisite:

An Introduction to Road Construction, Project Evaluation and Traffic Engineering

This course is designed to give prospective students an adequate level and breadth of knowledge in Road Transportation Engineering sufficient to meet the entry requirements for the NZIHT Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Highways). Other people working in areas related to transportation engineering may find this course useful to broaden their knowledge at an undergraduate level (i.e. NZQA Level 6 equivalent).




Topics include:

  • Earthworks (Formation) Terminology
  • Subgrade Requirements and Improvement
  • Pavement materials requirements
  • Wearing Surfaces: Types and Requirements
  • Introduction to Project Evaluation and Time value of Money
  • Traffic Surveys



On completion of this course participants will have the knowledge to:

On successful completion of this course participants will be able to demonstrate introductory knowledge of the topics listed above.

Persons who wish to broaden their understanding of aspects of road construction, project evaluation and traffic survey fundamentals, especially those interested in a taster course before committing to further study at Bachelor or Graduate Diploma in Engineering level.
