From the time construction drawings are approved, the role of surveying and setting out activities is critical to the outcome of a project. Survey and set out errors can be very costly in materials, labour and reputation. This practical course covers the necessary skills needed to set out construction and maintenance projects and determine the location of services, under the direction of a surveyor.
Topics include:
- Levelling methods and practical applications
- Contract drawings and instructions
- Interpretation of survey information
- Reading and verification of set out information
- Communication, errors and corrective actions
- Establishing requirements and setting out levels
- Measuring and recording ‘asbuilt’ requirements
- Marking/recording on-site services
- Reference systems and co-ordinates
- Set up and reading theodolite/EDM
- Set out for position and levels for a construction job
On completion of this course participants will have the knowledge to:
- Establish the existence of services on a project site
- Mark services and record them
- Interpret drawings to obtain information on levels and position
- Use levelling instruments, calculating and understanding needs in order to set out on site
- Confirm and take action where differences are found between drawings and field measurements
- Assist in setting out using both levels and theodolites/EDM
- Understand coordinates and calculate joins from them
- Set out simple structure from coordinated values
