This course identifies the properties and characteristics of aggregates and systems for quarrying, storage, selection and handling, so that these properties are not altered and their quality remains consistent until placement in the pavement. Future performance-based specifications may not be as prescriptive as they have been and this course reflects this.

- Selection of pavement aggregates - sealed and unsealed pavements
- Role of clay minerals
- Source rock characteristics
- Aggregate production and properties of the product
- Quality assurance / quality control
- Aggregates to meet TNZ M/4 and TNZ B/2 requirements
- Storage, handling and compaction of aggregate for pavements
- Use of marginal and low quality aggregates
On completion of this course participants will have the knowledge to:

Presenter Information:
Presenter Profile: Ian Anderson is a Civil Engineer with over 40 years involvement in various aspects of roading. After starting work with Ministry of Works experience was gained in both laboratory and construction areas. This was followed by time in country Councils and a consulting practice. An extended time was spent in Polytechnics teaching at all levels from construction site personnel, Technicians and most recently degree programs. In recent years Ian has taken part in development work in both Asia and South Africa.
