Bulk earthmoving is the most universal of earthworks in the civil contracting industry. It covers all forms of earthmoving, from the small works on housing sites and sections, onto landscaping contractors and retaining walls, through to the serious Transit NZ contracts moving thousands of cubic metres. The topics included in this course are essential to the understanding of earthworks, and cover the suitability and utilisation of the variety of plant and equipment used in the excavation, transport, conditioning and compaction of soil, including inspection and maintenance; soil properties and the problems that arise with different types of soil; environmental requirements and their effect on the worksite including installation and maintenance of erosion protection; and safety. As the industry goes through legislative and regulative changes these topics always need to be updated.
