IMPORTANT NOTE: Attendees of this course must first attend the Bitumen Bulk and Tanker Operator Course (normally run the previous day).

Precise and competent operation of the bitumen sprayer is essential to successful sealing operations. Sprayer performance is improved if operators have detailed knowledge of the principles of the chipsealing process and the appropriate knowledge to accurately use the equipment.  

Output quality is enhanced by bitumen product knowledge, adherence to safe handling procedures and careful record keeping.

Presenter information

Barry Gundersen has over 38 years engineering and management experience in the road surfacing industry on both sides of the Tasman. He was National Technical Manager for Bitumix (NZ) for 15 years before setting up his own consultancy in 1995, specialising in road surfacings. Barry has been a visiting lecturer at Auckland University for 12 years and also runs training courses for the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association
